hey Momma, so Daniela's been on all our cases to learn the thriller dance for months now through alamo sponsored lessons. the date finally loomed large and we jumped in at the last second to learn it. clocking in at nearly 6 and a 1/2 minutes, some time was needed to know when to, well ... this
which all gave way to the official Guinness Record Breaking (smashing, more like it) thriller spectacular a la austin, tx ... mary, mary's momma barbara franzosa, daniela, and myself are in the top left corner of your screen ... somewhere ... working it out in our best mj homages. nearly everyone in attendance was in character (i had my thrashed jeans and zombie make-up) which was quite the sight to behold. flip through some flickr accounts linked to from the official site or try searching flickr itself.

Modest Mouse - Satin in a Coffin videos
well, since on occasion, you have this song on repeat in your head or popping out of some speakers, it might as well be here, as well.
i copied and pasted a letterman taping and a Melkweg, Amsterdam show - let me tell you, these boys are major label players and lean to their respective markets well. fo sure. with letterman, issac looks like a hired gun banjo picker a la Vampire Weekend, not that there's anything wrong with that, but in the 2nd, they're all a little more unhinged.

The Persian Alaphabet Game Release!
a friend of music for momma, the indomitable and ever adventurous Leyla Shams (with help from family and friends) created this wonderful game and tool for any and all, young and old alike, interested in learning the Persian alphabet and having fun. are you an enemy of fun? i think not!
order now before the holiday madness - embolden yourself or be the cool aunt/ uncle and quench your friends' child, or your friends' inner child's, thirst for knowledge with this fantastic game ... @ once!
so, in conjunction with the release i give you this neo-folkish tune, if nothing else because "Iranian" is situated in the title and, well, it's pretty pretty. authentic Persian music to come soon.

Sting - new york part II
embedding was denied by request for the next video, but check it out. sting is a fancy pants badass, yayo. it's taken from, Urgh! A Music War, a brilliant straightforward concert doc with one shot off performances from a crazy amount of wicked punk/new wave bands. i remember seeing it at the dobie 3-4 yrs ago and it blew my mind.

Biden
lowered, rock bottom, expectations made palin look like ... what (?), not the blithering sycophantic loathsome wretched threat to us all that she is? yes, biden looked good. but is there a nugget of sound that will resonate till november? i would have preferred an hour of the pair in this setting ... with russert, of course. we all can dream.
