bits of influence (pre-prod cont)

i love stuart doing his dance moves (he does his moves/ he does his dance moves) in the background, with stevie doing his thing in the spotlight jamming on the underused, electric kazoo.

at the 1:34 mark, the drums kick in. and it is nice. yes. i think it's the thought of dancing to this or some band like animal collective, whom i'm currently giving another chance, with a straight face, that can be engaging.

writing of dance, i was just watching an American Maters piece on PBS. holy science! what a life that man lead. he seemed utterly relentless in his professional life and laid down works of beauty in his wake. in the googles while watching it, i found this piece of brill-yance, in and of itself.

and of course, delicatessen ... for the sound design. for the color. for the ability to move story minus words. for the general perfection.

da basics

hey momma, there is an unsurprisingly large number of high school english projects giving their love and skillz setz to recreating "the chocolate wars" on the interwebs. here is one such random example.

just looking through class notes before work and remembered the more high profile adapt back in the day breaking the below rule quite a bit. i can't really remember if the movie itself is any good, though. hmm.

off to serve the teeming masses.

our DJ slinging beats - Jackie Todd (casting cont)

hey momma, meet our DJ and a fellow ms stein's 2nd grade alumnus, the seminal, jackie todd. her stature cannot be understated as a, no, the voracious force down south way in the lane - late night. always late night. she brings a confidence and swagger to the part that is unmatched. love it. the perfect DJ.

MJ and Alan - casting (Cont)

hey momma, this 2 shot is of our lead, of course, and possible dancer guy #1/ former co-host/ co-k'oke partner in tomfoolery, alan. this man has presence. it can't be taught. it can't be work-shopped. he just owns it. hopefully he'll be attatched and locked in by friday.

The Vibrations - Muscle Memory ... & Meet Stuart!

hey momma, so, say hello to the star of Muscle Memory, Michael Jackson! MJ, as he is know by most, will be playing the part of stuart and was officially attached to the project this afternoon. for the time being he will keep his day job as kerbey lane UT's GM, but once he hits the silver screen, well ... . he has been unknowingly auditioning for the part for some time now. @ work, we've been having impromptu dance offs while garnishing, re-filling waters, etc etc and though, sadly, he doesn't possess the moves i can throw down (few do), he comes awfully damn close. it feels good to have that big piece of casting off my shoulders. little by little, the pre-production is coming coming together. the production date is locked in on march 28th and 29th. more MM news to come.

the track below came from a search of "muscle memory" from hype machine.

hey momma, a tip via my neighborhood coffee-slinger @ cafe caffeine and shoegazer obsessive, ryan, takes us to a link that obliterates pandora and musicocity etc etc in the internets radio game, last.fm. i'm breezing through the site for the 1st time as i type and, yes, am mightily enjoying myself ... mightily, i type!

meta post - so, i think daniela and i have decided to get a cheap and simple pc laptop until mac brings out the new line of kickassery, so regular updates should begin again, soon-like.

Rushmore - Cat Stevens, The Faces

hey momma, i know you've had to endure some electro blee beats that your not into as of late, so i brings the comfort food this evening. i got home from a shift today and had the irresistible urge to take my own stinging advice (someone i work with hadn't seen rushmore since forever ago, or some trivial injustice) and watch [Rushmore] once again. i piddled about the house while is was on, but it was comforting nonetheless as the wine peeps teri had on fresh air were both charming and gut-wrenchingly repulsive with all their lack of pretension pretension, but you know.
So, from the soundtrack of said movie are Cat Stevens and The Wind, terrorist ALERT!, and The Faces with Ohh La LA.

X-Mas Hoopla - Okkervil River, Rilo Kiley, Rufus Wainwright

hey momma, we both know going out in the public sphere in November and December can be downright excruciating, owing, of course, to the painful, non-stop assault of the jesus birthday music. Yes, it can not only be trite and redundant but, alas, soul crushing, as well.
so, in the spirit of The Boss's famous holiday song,

i've collected a few numbers that won't make you want to rip your head clean off your body, as i was melodramatically contemplating as daniela rolled her eyes, repeatedly, while eating out at Freddy's this past weekend.

My Space - Black Before Red, Oh No! Oh My!, The Early Tapes

hey momma, you've might of heard of "the my space" that all the kids are into these days. while facewhatevs might have taken over the so-called peer to peer networking blee blah, music is still ignored there.
So, paired with a couple you tube videos and a single from the early tapes, are the local bands respective my space pages. bookmark them and occasionally check in to see if they've blogged something cray cray important about the status of The Band, or if they'll be playing @ a bar near you any time soon. an in-store @ hastings? an acoustic set show at the barnes and noble etc, perhaps?

on language

hey momma, cray-cray, now apart of the american lexicon and a delightful phrase, should be (...will be?) scoured by william safire in an upcoming nytimes* diatribe.

speaking of language; a continuation of the TDAY discussion over, the endorsed by lacey, gender neutral pro-nouns via ... a link (!) ... to a ""cutting '' edge"" COMMUNITY SITE. careful you don't cut yourself on the edge.

The Flaming Lips - Christmas on Mars

wayne is the one cut off above. don't worry, you'll see plenty of him below.

this is the quite the long delayed and highly anticipated lips feature that wayne made in his backyard with warner bro. backing (to whatever degree). daniela saw it with wayne live and in full effect @ the drafthouse the sat urday we were here. and from what i gather, needs a 2nd viewing to give a fully thought out opinion. it seems to me slightly more non-narrative than i previously thought. hopefully the drafthouse will continue to show it occasionally through the holidays. it has the chance, and it seems is betting on, becoming a cult classic.

this next selection is from a another era, as you will recognize with respect to the clothes and youth culture, as wayne reflects with ... his brother (?) (i can't recall the connection, it's been so long since i've seen fearless freaks (let someone borrow it ...)) about the football games they once played as a bunch of OK boys with long hair and spliffs.

On The Media - Prop 8 and the contruction of marriage

hey momma, On The Media continues in its 24th golden era with Bob speaking to EJ Graff, author, What Is Marriage For? The Strange Social History of Our Most Intimate Institution.

and, i am sorry, but i cannot get enough of the palin material. she is the gift that, truly, keeps on giving. so here is badass d. ree's own GET YOUR WAR ON take.

The Decemberists - Valencia (video)

hey momma, in the spirit of good family cheer, because, lord help us, if we don't all get our allotment of good family cheer in these upcoming festive & relaxing days of the late nov and dec. lovefest ... i bring you a decemberist short/ music video, a la thriller, for the benefit of your nephew, my cousin, jonathan, who is quite the fan.

& BONUS (!) (!) ... a new song that broke only days a ago (a record for music for momma)! and it's good! there's another new single floating out there that i've heard that i remember as more brooding and, possibly, better, but i can't recall the name.
